Janko Katić – The Wise and Valiant Duke
Monodrama performed by Aleksandar Dunić
Ticket price: RSD 500
The monodrama "Janko Katić – The Wise and Valiant Duke" presents a concise portrait of one of the most distinguished military leaders of the First Serbian Uprising.
Written by the acclaimed Serbian author and renowned historian Milovan Vitezović, the play also serves as a compelling historical reminder. The role of Janko Katić is performed by actor Aleksandar Dunić, who appears in an authentic costume of a Serbian duke, designed by costume designer Boris Čakširanin.
For his time, Janko Katić was a highly educated man. Fluent in both Turkish and German, he served as Karađorđe's official interpreter and was one of his most trusted associates and loyal followers until his untimely death on the eve of the Battle of Mišar in 1806.
The performance recalls the celebrated heroes of Serbia's past, when honor, integrity, justice, nobility, and humanity were regarded as the highest values of the Serbian people.
The monodrama has been performed successfully for many years in schools, cultural centers, fortresses, church courtyards, and historic sites throughout Belgrade and Serbia, as well as abroad. To date, it has been staged more than 800 times.
